An automotive facility implemented Mighty Lube’s new Trolley Vision and Bent Trolley Detect systems on their ED Oven line. This decision came after concerns about potential manufacturing defects that could have affected production quality. The facility had begun using the Trolley Vision product one month prior, with noticeable improvements within one week.
Traditional inspections required maintenance personnel to manually inspect conveyor components during scheduled downtime. As a result, damaged trolleys could remain in service for extended periods, increasing wear on conveyor components, creating tracking issues, and raising the risk of unexpected downtime.
To gain continuous visibility into trolley condition, the facility implemented Mighty Lube's TrolleyVision™ and Bent Trolley Detect Systems.
The result was a new level of conveyor visibility that allowed maintenance teams to identify trolley issues before they escalated into production disruptions.
The Bent Trolley Detect system triggered almost every chain revolution alarm, indicating possible malfunctions. Despite multiple visual inspections and attempts to resolve the issue, including replacing the trolley’s wheels, the problem persisted, causing potential risks to production.
The Trolley Vision system reveals a critical manufacturing defect: the axle of trolley 144 is welded 1/4″ offset, causing the trolley to operate improperly. One side of the trolley is away from the track, while the other side is pressed against it, creating a significant risk for a major crash, particularly on turns. Upon discovering this defect, the faulty trolley is removed and replaced, resulting in an immediate improvement in operations.
Mighty Lube’s Trolley Vision product and Bent Trolley Detect system make an extraordinary impact on the facility’s approach to production safety and quality assurance.
Furthermore, the quick detection of trolley defects results in improved operational efficiency and a safer working environment. This demonstrates the critical value of advanced monitoring technologies in modern manufacturing. The facility now operates with greater confidence, knowing it has the tools necessary to prevent significant disruptions.
